This rare jewelled medallion of Admiral Lord Nelson is sensitively carved by Thomas Baxter. It was probably made to commemorate Nelson's death at Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 and is signed on the reverse T.B.1805. Baxter visited Nelson and Emma Hamilton at their home, Merton Place in 1802, 1803 and 1804. He probably carved this from one of his own sketches. |
