Label This rare and fascinating set was made so that the barrister, Sir John Coleridge fits neatly over the 'Claimant' a butcher called Arthur Orton. They illustrate a trial of 1872 which led to a second trial, the longest in legal history that lasted 188 days at a cost of £55,315. Orton, from Wagga Wagga Australia impersonated Roger Titchborne, shipwrecked elder brother and heir of the 11th Baronet lost presumed dead until Orton's appearance. Orton got 14 years hard labour.
Description A candle extinguisher in 3 separate parts, a figure of a barrister, a small butchers block and a small figure (Orton) The barrister sits over the top of the other two. Painted in full colour.
Provenance Donated by Joseph Gimson, managing Director of Royal Worcester in 1952.
