These unusual Royal Worcester jardinières were painted by David Bates in 1870. He was trained at the Worcester factory and the local Government School of Design and specialised in exquisite floral subjects. After leaving the works in 1880, wishing to exhibit his work independently , Bates became a well known landscape artist and went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy. |
